An international student with a “College Student” visa must obtain a “Permission to work outside the qualifications” at the time of entry before entering part-time job. Part-time jobs can be done within 28 hours a week, and long-term leave periods (summer, winter and spring breaks) within 8 hours a day. However, it is strictly prohibited to work in business related to customs business.
The ability to find a part-time job greatly depends on your communication skills and Japanese conversation skills. If you are early, you can find a part-time job within one month after coming to Japan, but it may take six months to be adopted even if you have JLPT’s N4 level Japanese ability. The following are the main part-time jobs by Japanese language ability level.
|Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)||Part-time job|
|N4||Cleaning, food factory, tavern washing place, warehouse work, etc.|
|N3||Izakaya kitchen, supermarkets, etc.|
|N2 or more||Izakaya, restaurant hall, supermarket cash register, etc.|
